Window blind cords are one of the leading causes of accidental strangulation in children under six. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, corded window coverings have been linked to hundreds of child fatalities over the past three decades — making them one of the most serious hidden hazards in the American home.

At UAM Blinds, every shade and blind we manufacture is cordless by design. Not as an optional upgrade. Not as a premium feature. As a standard that applies to every single product we make.

What "Cordless" Actually Means

A cordless blind has no hanging cords, loops, or chains anywhere on the product. The shade is raised and lowered by direct hand contact with the bottom rail — you push it up or pull it down, and it holds its position.

There are no cords to tangle, no loops to form, and nothing for small hands or curious children to reach for. The operation is intuitive for adults and completely removes the hazard that corded designs create.

Our Top Down Bottom Up (TDBU) shades have two rails — a top rail and a bottom rail — both operated by direct hand contact. No cords on either rail. The same standard applies.

Installing Blinds Safely in Children's Rooms

Beyond choosing cordless window coverings, a few installation practices further reduce risk in rooms where children sleep or play.

Mount brackets at the correct height. Ensure the shade sits close to the window frame with minimal gap between the shade and the wall, reducing the chance of a child reaching behind the shade.

Choose outside mount for nurseries and children's bedrooms where maximum darkness is needed. An outside mount installation covers the window frame completely, eliminating light gaps and creating a more secure installation.

Check installations periodically. Even cordless shades should be checked regularly to ensure brackets are secure and the shade operates smoothly.
